Maggie's for the South at Southampton
Designed by Stirling Prize-winning architect Amanda Levete and located next to Southampton General Hospital's oncology unit, the new Maggie's centre and gardens have transformed the previously uninspiring view from the hospital buildings.
The single storey centre incorporates bespoke ceramic block walls and mirror fa莽ades with sliding glazed screen panels and a sedum green roof. The interior movable walls will provide public and private flexible spaces to cater for a wide range of activities. The landscaping by RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows gold medal-winning landscape designer Sarah Price, takes inspiration from the nearby New Forest.
Maggie's Southampton continues G&T's relationship with Maggie's having previously provided Cost Management services for the centres at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, The Royal Marsden in Sutton and at Barts in London.
Maggie鈥檚 was founded by the late Maggie Keswick Jencks and her husband, architecture theorist Charles Jencks. Each scheme has been designed by a leading architect to provide a 鈥榟ome away from home鈥� where people affected by cancer can find emotional and practical support.
