York Minster Revealed

York Minster Revealed

York Minster Revealed is the largest restoration and conservation project of its kind in the UK which will safeguard the building as a place of worship, as well as a visitor attraction, for many years to come.

The project, funded in part by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund of £10.5million, was carried out over a number of phases which included conservation and repair to the East Gable involving stabilising the structure and replacing/conserving the stone and the conservation and reinstatement of part of the Great East Window. The project also developed the learning and training opportunities offered by the Minster including apprenticeships in stone masonry and glass conservation.

Other works include the creation of exhibition space under the Minster comprising state of the art multi-media galleries, new displays of historic collections and interactive interpretations to create new learning opportunities for visitors. Externally, a new ramped access and stone piazza have been created to improve public access.
