Lords Masterplan 1

Lord's Masterplan

The Lord's Masterplan is a phased £200m development plan spanning 15 years, which will ensure that Lord's remains the finest cricket ground in the world.

The first phase of the Ground Development Masterplan was the £25m redevelopment of the Warner Stand, which was completed adjacent to the Grade 2* Listed Members Pavilion in 2017. The roof of the stand is formed from translucent tensile fabric, supported on cantilevering American White Oak beams that radiate dramatically from this corner of the Ground. Solar thermal and photovoltaic roof panels have been incorporated to generate hot water and electricity respectively. Boreholes and ground source heat pumps are also an integral part of the energy system. Rainwater is collected from the roof and stored at basement level, before being recycled for the flushing of WCs and irrigation of the green walls.

The Warner Stand was followed in 2021 by the hugely successful and award-winning £53m Compton and Edrich stands, which created a harmonious relationship with Future Systems' 1999 Sterling Prize winning Lord’s Media Centre and transformed the Nursery End of the Ground. The new stands add to a collection of buildings that uphold the ‘Village Green’ ambience which remains at the heart of Lord’s identity. A rapid-build design was developed to minimise disruption to the cricket calendar, although much of the construction took place during the 2020 pandemic.

Planning consent was secured in May 2024 for the next phase of MCC’s Ground Development Masterplan; the £61.8m Tavern and Allen Stands project. The project comprises demolition of the existing two-tier Allen Stand and the erection of a new three-tier stand, along with a bridge link to the adjacent Grade II* Listed Members’ Pavilion. The Tavern Stand will undergo extensive refurbishment and expansion to include a cantilevered fourth seating tier, new hospitality facilities, retail spaces, food and beverage areas, and both hard and soft landscaping. The new stands will increase capacity by an additional 1,110 seats, with construction expected to commence in September 2024.
