Institute of Mining Neville Hall

Neville Hall

The project involves the refurbishment of Neville Hall in Newcastle upon Tyne, home of The North East Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers (NEIMME).

G&T worked alongside architect Howarth Litchfield to restore the Grade II* Listed building, which is located within the Central Newcastle Conservation Area, back to its former condition.

The £5m project involved the renovation of both the exterior and interior of the building, including the restoration of the Nicholas Wood Memorial Hall and the Edwardian Lecture Theatre. The renovation used modern energy efficient improvements, while still preserving the building’s rich history.

Established in 1852, NEIMME is the world’s oldest professional mining organisation, and played a vital role during the Industrial Revolution.
