Project Trident

The project was a rationalisation of manufacturing at Sandwich, scaling back activity at the site down to the area of API manufacture only, which required the decommissioning and demolition of the redundant manufacturing facility.

The deconstruction of the facility included the isolation of existing services from the campus system, decommissioning and removal of hazardous materials resultant from the manufacturing process and deconstruction of all buildings down to slab level.

Strict procedures were put in place for the signing off of the decontamination of various areas (due to the extremely dangerous and toxic chemicals that had been used over the years by Pfizer in certain buildings) as well as strict permit to works procedures to allow works to be carried out.

Pfizer wished to recycle most of the materials and, by the end of the project, a 98% reused/recycled goal was achieved.
