The Factory

The Factory

The Factory is part of a wider masterplan for St John's - a 15 acre site based around the former ITV:Granada Studios - to deliver a cultural enterprise and production district. It will be a seismic catalyst for beneficial economic and social change.

The Factory will be a new kind of large scale venue that captures the extraordinary creative vision of Manchester International Festival (MIF) with the partnership, production capacity and technical sophistication to present innovative contemporary work all year round as a genuine cultural counterweight to London.

The building will comprise a 1,600 seat auditorium together with a very large open performance and production space. These facilities will be supported by administration offices, back of house facilities and associated plant and production support space. The intention is that the overall space is totally flexible and can be used in many different configurations. The acoustic performance requirements of the overall building will also be demanding to enable adjacent performances and productions to take place simultaneously.
