University of Sheffield - TERC

University of Sheffield's TERC (Translational Energy Research Centre) forms part of the University's Energy Institute which is home to more than 300 academics.

In line with both regional and national innovation priorities, TERC provides facilities to develop low carbon technologies as both individual processes and as part of an integrated energy system. This is achieved by the installation of renewable energy generation, bioenergy and smart grid equipment in the bespoke building along with an enhanced pilot-scale advanced CO2-capture technology facility.

Funded by BEIS and the European Regional Development Fund, TERC gives global companies and new technology start-ups access to advanced testing facilities as well as the opportunity to collaborate with leading teaching academics in low carbon energy research.

The 1,600m² building includes 400m² of covered external storage and 900m² of external area for equipment plus associated car parking, service yards and landscaping. In addition, approximately 24 pieces of research equipment have been installed and commissioned within the building fabric.
