The Lexicon opens its doors, as the £240m regeneration scheme is completed

After 20 years on the drawing board, the long awaited regeneration of Bracknell opened to the public on 7th September 2017.

Bracknell’s town centre has been transformed by the opening of The Lexicon, a retail and leisure project comprising 666,000 sq ft of prime retail space. The joint venture between Bracknell Forest Borough Council, Legal & General and Schroders includes names such as Fenwick, M&S and Cineworld, setting a new standard in urban regeneration and place making.

G&T has played an integral role in the design, procurement and delivery of the scheme for the past five years, providing Project Management, including Programme and Project Controls, and Employer’s Agent services for all the construction projects associated with the town's regeneration. We also managed the refurbishment of the existing shopping mall, Princess Square, throughout this time.

Construction activities for this iconic redevelopment started in 2013 with the demolition of the former town centre to make way for extensive event spaces, covered streets and a 1300 space car park. It also included new public art installations such as GOBO lights, bespoke seating, canopy lanterns and brass paving inserts, all created by local artist Kerry Lemon.

In addition to the main scheme the regeneration consisted of several satellite projects, such as the Greening Works - an urban refreshment programme for the main approaches to the town centre, the refurbishment and extension of the 15th Century Bull Inn, façade uplift works to the High Street and an extensive highways improvement programme.
