G&T’s NextGen initiative offers a programme of now digital events for members to build connections, creating platforms for discussion and debate.

As programme champions of New London Architecture’s NextGen initiative we were excited to support their first virtual speed mentoring event, welcoming experienced industry professionals and those just starting out in their careers for an afternoon of knowledge sharing.

“An excellent experience which facilitated quick networking with individuals that I would not have met otherwise. I loved gaining advice and insight from the mentors particularly on their own career journey.”

Khalid Meah

G&T Assistant Surveyor

As we re-emerge from lockdown it has never been more important to keep industry conversations going and those at both ends of their professional lives connected. The next generation will have to live with the effects of the pandemic during a key time in their careers so it is important to provide a platform where both sides can learn from each other.

“The mentees’ questions were wide-ranging and thought-provoking. I was encouraged by the passion and enthusiasm shown for sustainable development. It gives me hope that as an industry, we will be able to deal with current and future environmental, social and economic challenges.”

Tom Wells

National EIA Lead, Waterman

18 mentors and 18 mentees from across the built environment came together via Zoom for the session last Tuesday. G&T Associate Director and NextGen Champion Priya Majeethia welcomed attendees before handing over to the NLA Programme Manager Grace Simmonds who went through how the session would run.

“Speed mentoring offers a fantastic opportunity for you to chat one on one with experienced industry professionals but also offers us mentors the chance to hear from you, СѼƵ any challenges you are facing and СѼƵ your experiences within the industry.”

Priya Majeethia

G&T NextGen Champion and Associate Director

Mentees spent 15 minutes with five different mentors asking questions СѼƵ challenges faced because of COVID-19, current projects and their career journeys. G&T mentors included Associate Director Priya Majeethia and Partners Miles Delap, David Mosley and Matt Holman.

“It was really insightful for me was to learn how the next generation see themselves within the industry right now. They are all very inspiring and I can see that they have very bright futures ahead of them.”
