V&A Photography Gallery

V&A Photography Centre

The V&A has one of the largest and most important photography collections in the world and the new Photography Centre will allow the museum to display this collection alongside more negatives, cameras and archive material than ever before.

Designed by David Kohn Architects, the refurbished Grade II Listed galleries will more than double the permanent photographic gallery space and create upgraded state of the art storage facilities.

The new centre, which spans four galleries, features a 'dark tent' - a multi-media projection and lecture space inspired by the 19th Century photographers' travelling darkrooms as well as a digital wall showcasing the most cutting-edge imagery.

The Photography Centre forms part of the V&A's Future Plan - a programme of restoration and redesign, which began in 2001, transforming the museum by creating new galleries and visitor facilities while also restoring the original building.
