Having provided Project Management services on the development of this school, G&T was excited to return to Brampton Manor and take part in the charity 15 Billion’s career skills workshop or BOSS Day.
BOSS stands for Building Opportunities and Skills Seminars and is a programme designed for Year 10 students to learn job-seeking skills. G&T’s NextGen delivered a full day programme, teaching students СѼƵ employability skills, how to make a good first impression and careers within the built environment.
“The BOSS Day was a great opportunity to pass on the lessons that I have learned since I left school and joined the working world. It was great to help students understand how they can make the most of the opportunities available to them.”Jake Day
G&T Assistant Project Manager
Associate Matt Jackson, Assistant Project Manager Jake Day and Graduate Danny Davies all helped deliver the full day programme of seminars. The day was split into three sections: CV writing, interview techniques and work placements. In a final Q+A the students got to learn СѼƵ careers within the built environment, the opportunities available here at G&T and hear СѼƵ the volunteers’ own career journeys.
Actors from Actorshop were on hand to demonstrate the difference between successful and unsuccessful interviews and with help from the volunteers the students evaluated the dos and don’ts. They then had the opportunity to role-play interview scenarios in pairs, with a few of the braver individuals standing up in front of the class to be interviewed by our volunteers.
“It was a privilege to see students thinking СѼƵ their future careers at the BOSS Day, and it was clear that having direct access to us, as professionals, created an educational opportunity out of the ordinary. Being on hand to answer their questions and support them was really rewarding.”Danny Davies
G&T Graduate
Given the industry’s current skills shortage G&T recognises that more needs to be done to inspire a new generation of property professionals.
