CPA NextGen Welcomes New Graduates to the Industry

As part of our ongoing NextGen partnership G&T sponsored the Graduate Networking event last week, bringing together new graduates to share experiences and make those all-important industry connections.

Due to the pandemic many businesses had to defer their 2020 start dates for graduate programmes until early 2021. In addition to this and as a result of remote working, many graduates have not had the opportunity to meet colleagues or connect with peers from other organisations. This event brought together City Property Association’s (CPA) NextGen members with graduates who had just joined the industry to take part in an afternoon of virtual networking, welcoming them to the sector.

“Now more than ever it is important for those more experienced to support new graduates as they enter the industry, ensuring they stay connected despite working remotely.”

Alex Wendon

G&T Director and NextGen Champion, Alex Wenden

Over 40 people joined the event with The City Property Association’s chair, Dan Scanlon giving the introduction and providing an overview of the CPA. Liam Lawson Jones, a member of the CPA’s NextGen committee and planning consultant at Gerald Eve, shared what the CPA’s NextGen had been up to in 2020 and how the programme works to support its members throughout their careers.

Attendees then worked their way around smaller breakout rooms hosted by NextGen members, meeting other graduates, sharing experiences and building important industry connections. Each networking session lasted 25 minutes with topics of conversation including what they were looking forward to in 2021, lessons they had learnt from 2020 and the importance of health & wellbeing whilst working remotely.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the NextGen Networking event, meeting both G&T graduates and those from other construction firms in a relaxed setting. Looking forward to the next event!”

Kat Gill

G&T Assistant Surveyor and NextGen Member

Experiences and networking opportunities during the first year of employment are key in helping with professional development, something which has been impacted throughout COVID-19 which is why events such as this one are so important to keep people connected.

We were thrilled to support this event as part of our sponsorship of the CPA’s NextGen programme, providing graduates with a much needed platform to stay connected and to begin to create their professional networks.
