We understand how important it is for employees to take time out from busy work lives, with studies showing that taking more breaks can in fact help us get more work done. With anxiety the theme of this year’s Mental Health Week, our Scottish offices launched a ‘Taking Time Out’ programme between the 15th and 21st May.
Glasgow’s programme of lunchtime events included a riverside walk, trip to the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) and reiki healing sessions, whilst Edinburgh employees enjoyed an introduction to yoga, meditation session and visits to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Fruitmarket Gallery.
‘For me, you can’t beat fresh air and exercise to clear your head. It was great to come together with peers to recognise the need to support mental health, whilst taking part in fun mindful activities.’Will Allan
Project Manager
A mindful lunch was organised in both Scottish offices on Friday, before finishing the week with a trip to the Ochil Hills on Saturday morning. Walkers of all abilities were invited to climb Dumyat Hill, taking in the views of Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument. Those daring enough finished the morning with a dip in the local reservoir for some cold water therapy.
G&T has a dedicated team of trained Mental Health First Aid Champions who are available to support employees with conversations surrounding mental health. Our MHFA Champions are here to listen. Employees also have access to a comprehensive, free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which can be used for themselves and/or members of their family households.
