Maggie's Cancer Care Centres

G&T has been providing Cost Management services for four Maggie's Centres across the UK - The Christie Hospital in Manchester, The Royal Marsden in Sutton, Barts in the City of London and Southampton General Hospital.

Maggie's was founded by the late Maggie Keswick Jencks and her husband, architecture theorist Charles Jencks, and each scheme has been designed by a leading architect to provide a 'home away from home' where people affected by cancer can find emotional and practical support.

The multi award-winning Robert Parfett Building at The Christie Hospital was designed by Foster + Partners and has a natural timber structure with integrated glasshouse.  The surrounding gardens were designed by landscape gardener Dan Pearson.  The centre was opened in April 2016 by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, the President of Maggie's.

Maggie's at The Royal Marsden has been designed by London-based studio Ab Rogers Design with landscaping by world-renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf.  Located within the hospital grounds, the building will benefit from lots of natural light with views over the gardens.  The building is a steel framed terracotta clad building, formed as a series of blocks with a separate garden house building.

"G&T is proud to be working with Maggie’s in developing their centres which provide such vital support to all those affected by cancer."

Joe Lawlor, G&T Partner

The new Steven Holl designed Maggie's Centre at Barts sits alongside the Grade I Listed Great Hall.  Works included demolition of a 1960s extension to the north wing and construction of a four storey new concrete framed building with glazed façade.

Maggie's at Southampton General Hospital has been designed by RIBA Stirling Prize-winning Amanda Levete with landscaping by Sarah Price.  The single-storey centre and gardens, inspired by the New Forest, will transform the currently uninspiring concrete view from the hospital buildings.
